This special edition addresses some of the reaction to the NY State legislation to permit same sex marriage.
Money quote: "What remains to be seen now is whether the people of New York will look kindly on the legislators who ignored them, listening instead to the Hollywood stars and other glitterati who became lobbyists for this fashionable cause." William Duncan, National Review Online.
Note particularly the item on "Resource Material." We have a web page devoted to articles explaining the Catholic position on same sex "marriage." This will become increasingly important in the months to come.

“This is Exactly Why We Need the Constitutional Amendment”
By Jason Adkins
June 26
“This is exactly why we need the constitutional amendment to protect marriage in Minnesota,” said Jason Adkins of the Minnesota Catholic Conference and a member of the Minnesota for Marriage Coalition. “Marriage between one man and one woman has served mankind for all of recorded history as the building block of civilization and the best institution for children. Now marriage has been radically redefined in New York and gay marriage imposed without a vote of the people.
From the Catholic League
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on where gay marriage is headed:
Whenever the American people have had a chance to approve gay marriage, they have rejected it. In the more than 30 states that have put this issue to a vote, homosexuals have never won. The only arenas they have been able to score a victory are in some state legislatures and courts. In other words, this is a classic case of the people vs. the elites.
Ultimately, this issue will not be resolved in the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court: it will be decided by a constitutional amendment. Though the Federal Marriage Amendment prevailed in the House in 2006 by a margin of 236-187, it failed to achieve the necessary 290 votes required to pass a constitutional amendment; two-thirds of both chambers of Congress, and three-fourths of the states (38), are needed.

NYCatholic Leaders Call For Continued Opposition to Gay Marriage
NEW YORK – Top Catholic leaders in New York have wasted no time in voicing their continued opposition to gay marriage since Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill that allowed same-sex couples to marry into law on Friday.
Archbishop Timothy Dolan, the state’s top Catholic leader, has called gay marriage “detrimental to the common good” and a violation of “natural law.”
As the New York City’s Gay Pride Parade was getting underway Sunday, Dolan reaffirmed the Catholic position on marriage in comments to reporters following a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
“We as Catholics would oppose any attempt by anybody to redefine marriage, whether that … whomever that may be,” he said. “We just don’t believe that marriage can be changed and radically altered to accommodate a particular lifestyle.”

U.S. bishops issue powerful series of videos defending true marriage
June 23, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Responding to the push for legalized same-sex “marriage” in the United States and throughout the world, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has launched a new initiative to protect and support true marriage, entitled “Marriage: Unique for a Reason.”
The initiative aims to catechize and educate Catholics on the meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman and seeks to “fully answer the false claim of discrimination” with regards to the Church’s stance against same-sex “marriage.”
Last June, the USCCB released the first of five videos, called “Made for Each Other”, which explores sexual difference and the complementarily between man and woman in marriage. A newly released second video, Entitled “Made for Life,” features married couples reflecting on topics related to the gift of children and the indispensable place of fathers and mothers. Later videos will cover topics of marriage related to the common good and freedom.

Chicago priest decries homosexualist agenda
By Matt C. Abbott
A Chicago priest has spoken out on a controversial, politically-incorrect topic.
And, no, it isn’t Father Michael Pfleger.
It’s Father Anthony Brankin, pastor of St. Odilo Parish in Berwyn, Ill.
In a recent parish bulletin, Father Brankin wrote (slightly edited):
On this resource site you will find statements of the Vatican, USCCB, Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and more.
