If it is ratified the CEDAW treaty will:
- Enshrine abortion into the U.S. system of law at a higher level than our constitution.
- Require that outside “judges” monitor our conformance with the requirement to pass laws ensuring that women have access to abortion and demand that such laws be passed!
- Nullify any attempt to reverse Roe v. Wade.
Explanation
CEDAW, Convention to End Discrimination Against Women, is a U.N. “Treaty” which president Jimmy Carter signed in 1980. After signing the then president sent it to the U.S. Senate for ratification. It has been there since.
With the incoming U.S. Senate under control of secular, anti-life elements we expect that there will be a renewed effort for its ratification. That, at least is the opinion of Austin Ruse, President, C-FAM. (More below after the “Read the rest…” button.
This is a cause for major concern!
Our U.S. Constitution
Article VI of the constitution states:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

CEDAW is silent on abortion yet many countries have been ordered by the CEDAW Committee to legalize abortion.
CEDAW actually condemns prostitution, but countries have been directed by the Committee to legalize prostitution.
The CEDAW Committee went so far as to criticize the country of Belarus for establishing Mother’s Day, what the Committee referred to as a “negative cultural stereotype.”
The CEDAW Committee is hostile to organized religion. It ordered Libya to reinterpret the Koran to fall within Committee guidelines. It criticized Ireland for allowing the Church to participate in public policy discourse.
CEDAW may have been conceived with good intentions, but it has been hijacked by radicals bent on using it for dangerous social experiments that are harmful to our countries, our families, our mothers, wives and daughters.
“Grounded in the vision of equality of the United Nations Charter, the Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) advocates the improvement of the status of women … ”
“…the Convention also devotes major attention to a most vital concern of women, namely their reproductive rights.
“The Convention also affirms women’s right to reproductive choice. Notably, it is the only human rights treaty to mention family planning. States [as in the United States, ed] parties are obliged to include advice on family planning in the education process (article l O.h) and to develop family codes that guarantee women’s rights “to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children and to hove access to the information, education and means to enable them to exercise these rights” (article 16.e).
CEDAW, if approved would make the overturn of Roe v. Wade irrelevant. This is a much stronger tool for the pro-abortion forces. Further, it would seriously undermine the influence of the Church in promoting Christian values.

Almost alone the US has stood firm against ratifying this crazy treaty…but now I am worried….
