Being that Peters works for Cdl. Maida in the Archdiocese of Detroit, one wonders what Abp. Wuerl might have said to the Cardinal when this was first published.

If we need to stand up in support of clergy who define and speak the teachings of the Catholic Church, we need to start here. If there is freedom of religion, then we cannot tolerate those who would try to silence the believers.

People who support gay marriage conveniently side-step certain facts about marriage, and deny the statistical evidence that makes homosexuals unfit for it. I'm not saying this out of animosity, but I've noticed that no one on either side of the argument mentions certain things that are crucial to the argument.

Marriage began as, and still is, an institution that is there to protect men and women's property rights, guards against infidelity, provides a forum for two people to deal with issues such as addictions and mental issues, and links people to support groups (being other married couples and access to social programs through the government and churches)

Statistically, gay people have higher rates of drug/alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and promiscuity. And it's in their constitution to reject government and religious attempts to help them get through their problems, as their problems tend to stem from the lifestyle that they covet. Even gay people in long-term, committed relationships routinely have sex with multiple partners, use drugs/alcohol as part of their lifestyle, and have high rates of police intervention during domestic diputes.

As a self-employed businessman many of my clients are gay couples. I've been in business for over ten years. Many of my clients explain their lifesyles to me and are actually proud to be gay and to practice the behaviours I mentioned above. In addition, the gay lifestyle seems to be centered on sex, and not on relationship building or contributing socially or spiritually to the community. (With the exception of AIDS drives and programs which, to be honest, are only self-serving because erradicating AIDS is more about preserving and promulgating the very behaviour which has resulted in it's becoming an epidemic.)

Allowing gays to be married wouldn't be giving them the same "experience" as heterosexual couples, it would "water down" the institution and deprive serious couples of the benefits that marriage provides.

That's all I wanted to say on the subject. If you'd like to contact me to toss these ideas around I'd me more than happy to.

Thanks.

I have been disturbed by the NY Times coverage of the Catholic Church for quite a while. Today I cancelled my NY Times subscription after reading Maureen Dowd's ”A Nope For Pope” (March 28th issue) – it finally tipped my scale. Anyone who has doubts about NY Times’ anti-Catholic bigotry should read it.

To cancel your NY Times subscription, go to:

click on REGISTER, then look for the Need Help? Box on right side of the REGISTER YOUR SUBSCRIPTION box and click on the GO button next to it. Enter the telephone number of your subscription, somebody will call you.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Clarification

Washington—A recent letter from Network, a social justice lobby of sisters, grossly overstated whom they represent in a letter to Congress that was also released to media.

Network’s letter, about health care reform, was signed by a few dozen people, and despite what Network said, they do not come anywhere near representing 59,000 American sisters.

The letter had 55 signatories, some individuals, some groups of three to five persons. One endorser signed twice.

There are 793 religious communities in the United States.

The math is clear. Network is far off the mark.

There are several if not many disident groups who call themselves Catholic who will have to answer for the scandal and confusion they cause by openly and publicly disclaiming the Catholic teachings of the Church. By so doing they remove themselves from the Church and are in need of public penance and absolution before being readmitted to the Church and Sacraments. We need much prayer and retribution for such offenses to Our Lord.

From the WSJ
By sending a letter to Congress in support of the Senate healthcare bill, a wide coalition of nuns took sides against not only the Republican minority but against their own church hierarchy, as represented by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which opposes the bill. The nuns' letter contributed to the momentum in favor of the legislation, despite opposition that is partially rooted in a disagreement over abortion funding.

Who is this Simone Campbell? In 2007 she hosted a meeting with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's lunatic president. Network's Web site has her comments on the meeting. Here's a sample:
